Mars in Aries: Love in Action or Mars Attacks?

marsattacks.jpg

As I have mentioned in previous months there are BIG energies exacting change on the world right now, big Capricorn lessons are being unfolded as we speak. And this month Mars in Aries is going to square that set of big actors, setting up a challenge we must all face and overcome if we are to learn these lessons well enough to graduate to the next level.

At the end of June, the Warrior planet Mars moved from the sign of Pisces into the sign of Aries; Mars is the ruler of Aries and it is quite comfortable there. Pisces swamps Mars, so coming out of the water and getting back into the fire builds his strength. As you know Aries is a forward moving, action-oriented sign that gets things done in a unique and pioneering way. It does not take NO for an answer. It rushes in where angels fear to tread. It is the energy of activists and pioneers, bravery, grit and courage; it is also the energy of fighting, war, anger and soldiers. It is a marital energy. Mis-directed it can bring about misfortune and difficulty from over-enthusiasm; properly directed with laser-precision it can be a creative driving force which transforms situations, large or small. If you turned on the news in July you witnessed Mars in Aries in action via the drama that unfolded in Portland, OR USA. The government (Capricorn) met the activists (Aries) and clashed in martial fashion. This is one way for the energy to unfold. Capricorn and Aries are both cardinal energies so action is associated with them. However, the responsible and honorable attributes of both signs seemed to be missing in that initial standoff.

Though if at first you don’t succeed, there will be another chance. These squaring energies are hanging around throughout the year and have the potential to intensify even more this month and next. Why, you ask? Normally Mars only takes 6 weeks to transit a sign, but it is experiencing its’ retrogradation period and will stay in Aries until the beginning of January 2021. Buckle up, it’s going to be a bumpy ride!

HOWEVER, as we know, we ALL have free will and choice as incarnated Souls. We can choose to work consciously with this energy; purposefully directing it and using it in its highest form, transformational power that can move mountains. Or, not; see how that free will and choice works?

The main planets acting in this cosmic play are Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto (all in Capricorn) and Mars (in Aries). Jupiter is an expansive energy, spiritual and light in nature, exaggerating and “too much” at times. Saturn is the taskmaster of the cosmos, the strict teacher who will continue to drive a lesson home until the student “gets it”, no matter how much time passes. The expansive energy of Jupiter stands in stark contrast to the constrictive energy of Saturn. Jupiter is light and expanding, floating higher and higher until it escapes its bounds. Saturn draws in and condenses, creating a solid, formidable core that becomes more and more dense with time; nothing escapes its hold without a great deal of work. As light and expansive as Jupiter is, Saturn is equally cold and dense. Jupiter and Saturn energies represent the polarized times in which we find ourselves, liberal Jupiter versus conservative Saturn. But they can work together, if we choose consciously. (I will be writing more about the upcoming Aquarius Jupiter/Saturn conjunction January 2021 soon…it’s big!) But for now, there’s also Pluto.

Pluto, the dark Lord of the Underworld, grabs us and takes us down into his depths until we are no longer who we were at the beginning of the journey; transformation in the darkness is Pluto’s calling card. There is a great deal of control Pluto exhibits just to demonstrate the lack of control one has against him. Pluto bends both the energy of Jupiter and Saturn into submission. We will transform one way or another, HOW we choose to transform is up for choice; but TRANSFORMATION itself is mandated and not up for choice. Ah, Divine Paradox!

The combination of these energies at this time is demanding change of the institutions that no longer serve the whole. Fiery Aries is keeping that demand from going stagnant and growing cold; it is ready to rumble. But for those of us who do not want to get carried further down the collective chaos stream, what can we do to utilize the energy of Aries Mars and get this transformation moving in a conscious forward direction that exacts pioneering change?

Reviewing Mars, we remember it is HOW we get what we want; so, when our inner Mars gets agitated, we have to look to see WHY we are being animated. What is Mars asking us to DO? Mars generally points where we need to take action. What can we do to siphon this action-oriented energy and channel it into a productive direction?

We have witnessed large numbers of people taking to the streets in the name of social activism. We have witnessed large protests that clearly state things cannot and shall not remain status quo. We have seen activists and soldiers animated and confrontational. We have seen conflict exploding. We know that Black Lives Matter. We know that racism is a problem we have not dealt with as a country. While the protestors were raising their voices we were introduced to the “Wall of Moms” and the “Leaf-blower Dads”. We also witnessed “naked Athena” in the midst of all the violence. ALL of these are Aries Mars in action; all are acts of courage! But it is important to remember that not all action is outward and extroverted.

In addition to taking to the streets, another way to use Aries Mars is to be physically active. Exercise. Mars is an athletic energy. It is competitive. Get yourself in fighting shape. Challenge family and friends to get up and move, get your steps in. Take action to educate yourself about what you do not know. Do the inner work necessary to transform at this very important time knowing that when we change ourselves within we change the world without. Choose to engage with kindness at a time when confrontation and aggression are expected; take action to promote peace. The world could use more peaceful warriors right now.

What world do you imagine you would like to create? Start taking action to build that world, because Covid-19 has done its best to tear this one’s illusions away. What type of Phoenix do you expect to see arise from the ashes?

There are many ways to use active Aries Mars energy besides warring. Be creative. Be a pioneer, find a new path, build a new way. This is the test being offered. The course is required and must be passed! Study hard.

***If you have not registered to vote in the USA, take action and do so. Democracy needs you.

This time will be recorded in history books; if we are determined, HER-story will be birthed and recorded as well.
