Aries is action energy, and this New Moon is strong in FIRE, so you may be motivated to get the things done you have been procrastinating.

The Sun moved into Aries in March and will step into Taurus on April 20th. The quickness of Aries will give way to the slower pace and determination of Taurus at that time. But for now, Aries pushes us ahead and keeps us in motion. Aries marks the beginning of a new astrological year. It is officially Spring when the Sun moves into Aries. The Sun and Moon share equal time in the sky; a balance has returned. It is the time to get things started and begin implementing the plans we created in the dark of Winter. The world thaws and begins stirring back to life. New life emerges, and fresh starts surround us. Aries energy beckons us to get back into action. The Aries Sun coupled with the Aries Moon at this New Moon time energizes us to re-engage, trailblaze our way forward, and begin whatever needs to start. As the saying goes, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” So, get those ideas out of your head and put them into action. Begin a new journey.

Mercury, the planet of communications, begins April in Pisces, moved into Aries on April 5th, and shifts into Taurus along with the Sun on the 20th. This range of movement points to a variety of communication styles in April. We begin with Pisces, a very spiritual but confusing type; it is intuitive, feeling-oriented, and empathic. It may be hard to separate your thinking from the group’s. Are those your thoughts, or are you picking up on someone else’s? Fear not, Aries Mercury separates you from the pack and sets off on its own to discover its truth. Aries Mercury thinks independently and speaks with great fiery passion and directness. It may even spew some anger or rage. Fortunately, it is as quick to cool off as it is to spout off. The aggressive nature of Aries gives way to Taurus Mercury once the Sun shifts. Taurus Mercury is slower, more thoughtful, and more stubborn than either Pisces or Aries. It just may be that you find out what you think by the end of the month. Which thoughts have value for you? Which ones can you throw out? And what things do you know for sure? Pay attention to how you communicate, what you share, how you interact with others, and what you think you know this month. You may be surprised at all the twists and turns.

Venus, the relationship planet, begins the month in Aries and slips into Taurus on April 15th. Aries Venus is independent, wants to be on her own, and desires that things are fresh and new. Taurus Venus is happy to be in nurturing, sustainable, and emotionally grounded relationships. Doesn’t it always seem like we are trying to balance ourselves and others? If only we could remember that we are participants within ever-changing cycles, and this too shall pass. If we embrace our BOTH/AND selves, relationships with ourselves and others would be that much easier. Fortunately, each day, week, month, year, decade, century, and millennia we have the opportunity. How quickly we learn is up to us!

Action-oriented Mars begins the month in Gemini and transits into Cancer on April 24th. The actions we take are more thought-driven at the beginning of the month and become more emotionally driven toward the end. Mars has a time of it in Cancer; it is at its fall in this sign. The Cancerian water douses Mars’ natural fire and makes it harder to get things done. The “steam” created tends to get blown off rather than used as fuel. If one can manage to observe what one feels about what one has to get done, not get lost in their feelings, then the steam is available for use and momentum salvaged. If not, we “lose steam.”

Jupiter and Saturn remain in Aquarius, Uranus in Taurus, Neptune in Pisces, and Pluto in Capricorn. Jupiter and Saturn have put a good amount of space between them, but Saturn and Uranus are still interacting strongly. Their squaring off continues to make their presence felt, the growing pains of a new paradigm coming into the world. The status quo continues to break down, and an alternative reality continues emerging. Which way the world breaks is up to each of us and the vision we hold. Where are you placing your focus? What dream are you birthing into reality? Heavy stuff but necessary.

As Pluto remains in Capricorn, it continues to demand that we reassess how to use power responsibly. It allows us to reflect upon this deeply when it turns retrograde on April 27th. It remains that way until October when it goes direct, after the Scorpio Full Moon. Reflecting upon power themes, power plays, the proper use of power, and the abuse of power may rise to consciousness during that period. Personal, responsible empowerment is up for review too. How do you work with the situations the Universe gives you? Do they empower or disempower you? How does your way affect the whole? Big stuff. Welcome to Aries, the start of a new year; the beginning is always the end and vice versa.

As NEW MOONS are the time for starting new emotional habits, and Aries is the sign of the Self, creating new habits that promote Self-growth and meet personal needs is in order. Take actions that are loving toward yourself at this time.
