Aquarius New Moon 2021
This month's NEW MOON falls in the Air sign of Aquarius at 23 degrees 17’ February 11, 2021 @ 12:06 PM MST/2:06 PM EST.
As always, the New Moon is a time for seeding new ideas. This New Moon occurs in the sign of Aquarius, a group-oriented, social sign. Aquarius is about freedom, the larger “group mind,” society, and its ideals. It is a fixed AIR sign and, because this New Moon's nature is so strong in Air, there is plenty of cosmic support to plant a new belief system and/or learn new things. Now is the time to think about our place in the bigger society and embrace the unique gifts we bring to the overall group. What do we have to offer that makes the world more just, more humane, and advances us all? How does our individuality support the group? What unique beauty of ours must we own to progress? Aquarius gives us the desire to be a truly free individual. It is a great time to sow new ideas about what personal freedom means within the context of the greater whole and to explore what “free will and choice” ultimately means.
This Aquarius New Moon in February 2021 is a challenging one. The aspects suggest we, society as a whole, are still holding on to some very fixed ideologies that we are having a hard time releasing. If you watch the news, this comes as no big surprise. However, one sure way to affect positive change in the outer world is to do our inner world work. And New Moon time is ripe for doing so. There are very few soft aspects at this New Moon, which means emotions will be significantly charged and challenged. It is necessary to remain mindful and detach somewhat from the electrified intensity of the day. Perhaps adopt the position of the "detached observer" before adding your two cents? Maybe to find out, there is no need to add your two cents anyway. After all, emotionally cool is Aquarius Moon's specialty.
The Sun begins February in Aquarius and will shift into Pisces on the 19th. While Saturn/Uranus rules Aquarius, Jupiter/Neptune rules Pisces, so there will be a softening when the Sun changes signs toward the end of the month. We shift out of our heads, the world of detached ideas, and take a deep dive into the heart, the world of emotional connections.
Mercury is in Aquarius throughout February but is retrograde. It turned retrograde at the end of January and remains so until February 21, when it will be direct. The retrograde period suggests 2/3 of the month will be introspective, contemplating our own ideas. The month also may be filled with miscommunications and mistaken meanings. That detached observer from above will prove valuable to help keep that to a minimum! While Mercury is happy in Aquarius, it will be a bit subdued due to its retrograde status. It will be important to clarify meanings before reacting this month!
Venus shifted from her Capricorn home into Aquarius on the 2nd of February. She will move into Pisces on the 26th. At that time, relationships should soften a bit. She may want to keep her distance and go within until the 26th, what with Mercury retrograde and her Aquarius need for independence; but, she will re-connect when she moves into Pisces. Venus is exalted in Pisces, so she will be happy there, not so aloof!
Mars in Taurus slowed things down a bit. It is trine (works with) Capricorn Pluto, so transformational action is on the menu. With both planets in Earth signs, whatever action you take, make sure it grounds you. Do things differently. Begin a new routine based on new ideas. Maybe begin that exercise regime you have meant to do – reshape yourself inside and out! Whatever you do, include the effort to move toward better acceptance of others and their opinions. Acceptance helps you toward a better sense of self-worth and allows for forgiveness of self and others. It's been a long pandemic. If WE shift, perhaps it will? That's a new idea! Maybe it is worth giving it a try? (A note, Mars in its last degree of Aries fire culminated in the US Capitol riot on January 6th; things certainly did shift once Mars entered Taurus the next day).
Jupiter and Saturn remain in Aquarius and continue to square Taurus Uranus, which points to sustained challenges and continued frustrations with occurring changes. Neptune in Pisces whispers to our higher angels while Pluto in Capricorn still exacts a long-lasting overhaul. Our thoughts and behaviors can be stubbornly fixed or refreshingly determined; how will you use this month's energies?
This month is challenging. It will require introspection about and implementation of unique ideas and new belief systems. In the spirit of BROTHER/SISTERHOOD, it is essential to remember that those we think we differ from significantly are much more like us than we may realize, in so many ways. Perhaps looking for our shared humanity versus our disagreements is the way forward? As NEW MOONS are for planting new ideas, this New Moon supports sowing visionary ideals. Dream big dreams!
